Queen Nina's "Four Women"

***Disclaimer***
This is the first of many posts She-Salt will make about Queen Nina. Get wit it!

It was in my Black Revolutionary Texts class where I first fell in love with this performance. Nina Simone's performance of "Four Women" is a hybrid of oh so fly content and remarkable musicality. This has got to be one of my favorite songs of hers and I love her swag on this song in particular. Pay extra attention to the way "The High Priestess of Soul" breaks it down at (5:00). Queen Nina Simone telling the stories of Four Black Women=incomparable and simply genius. Listen to the words. I love how the last woman's name is PEACHES :) Nina is such a "FLY GYPSY WOMAN" (shout outs to Luna E-post soon to come :)

Light Blue in Paris

I was in a Monk-mood and I came across this MASTERPIECE. Thelonius Monk is one of my all time fav jazz musicians. I love how he makes me feel *floating on a cloud right now* He inspires a sista to create new colors. Enjoy "Light Blue" (Paris, 1969). "Ruby, My Dear" & "Round Midnight" also make me smile :)

Her name is Nancy, she talk with dignity.

I can rock with some SISTER NANCY! Her version of "Bam Bam" has ALWAYS been my jammie jam! Matter fact, I bangs with all the tracks off of her album, One, Two (1982). Sister Nancy is quite sick wit' it! "Only Woman DJ With Degree" and "Ain't No Stopping Nancy"=Big Tunes/Classics in She-Salt's book.

"Only Woman DJ With Degree"

"If you talkin' females you should say (SHE's) the nicest..."

L-Boogie is the nicest! THE END! Oh how I wish she would come back. Lyrically she is soooo gifted. Here is a clip from a performance at the Apollo. I LOVE the FUGEES! A lot of hot-fiya-bizness tracks rolled up in one. Not to mention, Lauryn is one of my TOP fav artists. I used to blast THE MISEDUCATION every-single-DAY before I went to school (my middle school and high school years). Lauryn, if you are reading this (lol), please make our day, week, and year by coming back into the game.

-Sincerely,
She-Salt.

P.S L delivers one of the HOTTEST lines ever to come out of her mouth on "How Many Mics," off the album, THE SCORE!!! "...and I back dis wit Deuteronomy, or Leviticus, God made dis word, YOU can't get wit dis, sweet like licorice, dangerous like syphillis!!!!!!!!!!" WHAT!!!!!! I'm done.......

The CLAUDINE soundtrack…hands down one of the BEST soundtracks EVER!!! Gladys Knight and The Pips laid it down somethin’ wonderful with the help of Curtis Mayfield on this record. Who remembers the movie CLAUDINE??? Starring Diahann Carroll and James Earl Jones, this CLASSIC was released in 1974 (way back in my mama's day). It's about a single Black mother who is raising six kids in Harlem, NY. Diahann Carroll falls in love with James Earl Jones (a garbage man). Big ups to all the single moms AND the garbage men!

I love the ENTIRE soundtrack but “Make Yours A Happy Home” is one of my favy-favs. It makes me soooooooooooooooo, well....HAPPY :)

“…I got a happy cry. I wanna be what pleases you. So long as there is peace wit ya, that’s all I can do…”

Yeeeees Gladys!!!

Have a listen...

DONNY's Gospel...

Donny Hathaway's, "Put Your Hand in the Hand," has been in my head for a minute. I have been hearing this song in my sleep and since I have been churchin' all mornin' in my room, I figured I would share it . DONNY HATHAWAY=SHE-SALT's favorite male vocalist of all time (Marvin is up there too!) His voice is so warm, rich, and deep! He is argurably one of the GREATEST soul sangahs in my book. Not to mention this joint reminds me of my home church. "Come on somebody..." I love the oldies :) R.I.P DONNY!

N'DAMBI's Pink Elephant

N'DAMBI was breakin it down this past Tuesday @ SOBS, NYC, where she held her album release party for her new project, Pink Elephant. The single, "Can't Hardly Wait," is soooo official!!! N'DAMBI was chillin' with her girls back in Dallas, in a Cadillac, listening to UGK, when she became inspired to write this track. It is so raw and I loves it!!!

Let's give it up for the real sang-ahs! N'DAMBI sangs and I heart her for it. She has been on the scene for years, representin' Dallas, Texas to the fullest! She released her first project, Little Lost Girls Blues in 1999 and used to sing background for "Low-down Loretta Brown", Ms. Erykah Badu.

Ndambi on "Can't Hardly Wait" and other joints from her album...

For "Can't Hardly Wait" (full) hit up www.myspace.com/ndambi & Visit http://www.ndambionline.com/ Pink Elephant is available now!

P.S...The fro is on-point! She uses Blue Magic Grease (some of yall know what that is). Do what you gots to do N'DAMBI! If it works for you, its works for me :)
